Abstract
This article presented advances on the socio-cognitive dynamics that favored the emergence and development of the geostationary satellite operation at the end of the 20th century in Argentina. For this, the experience of the private company Nahuelsat s.a. was recovered between 1993 and 2007. The period under analysis ranges from the creation of the company to occupy the orbital positions assigned to Argentina by the International Telecommunications Union (itu), to the transfer of its financial, building and human assets to Argentina Satelital s.a. (arsat s.a.), an Argentine public company established in 2006. During this period the social and cognitive conditions were established that made possible the local operation of geostationary satellites, the definition of mission requirements for the development of new satellites and the institutionalization of new knowledge.
